Experienced Mental Health Crisis Specialist for 988 Chat/Text Services – Part-Time, Remote Position, Friday to Sunday, 3rd Shift

About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Mental Health Crisis Specialist to join our 24/7/365 mental health crisis/suicide prevention team. As a remote position, you will handle incoming chat/text messages through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL), also known as 988, providing brief clinical screenings, risk assessments, and appropriate service linkage for individuals experiencing emotional distress. This is a part-time opportunity, working Friday to Sunday, 6pm-2:30am CST, with Monday to Thursday off.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide telephonic or chat clinical screenings and risk assessments to individuals in crisis
- Answer crisis contacts via the chat/text platform to assess for suicide, safety, and identify appropriate community resources to meet individual needs
- Conduct follow-up calls for individuals deemed moderate to high risk for suicide
- Maintain ethical and clinical standards in compliance with all accreditation requirements
- Actively participate in ongoing supervision, training, and team meetings to ensure continuous learning and growth
- Assist in administrative tasks as needed to support the team
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, or be a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist
- Six months to one year of related crisis experience, with a strong understanding of suicide assessments and crisis intervention
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate via written, verbal, in-person, and virtual methods
- Demonstrated high-level customer service skills and professional etiquette
- Knowledge of community resources and ability to provide service linkage and referrals
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience working in a crisis or mental health setting, with a strong understanding of trauma-informed care
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and suicide prevention strategies
- Experience working with diverse populations, with a strong commitment to cultural competence and sensitivity
