We're a self-publishing game development studio with a legacy of creating award-winning games like System Shock 2, BioShock, and BioShock Infinite. We're currently working on our latest project, Judas, and we're looking for a talented Principal Lighting Artist to join our team.

About the Role

As a Principal Lighting Artist, you will play a key role in shaping the visual identity of Judas. You will work closely with our Creative and Art Direction, Design, and Tech teams to drive the technical and aesthetic quality of lighting in the game. Your expertise will help us create a gameplay experience that is both beautiful and cohesive from start to finish.

Responsibilities:

  • Push the visual and technical quality bar for lighting and troubleshoot scalability and quality issues across the lighting team
  • Collaborate with Art Leadership, Tools, and Graphics Engineering to identify areas for quality, efficiency, or performance gains
  • Uphold the highest standards of aesthetic and technical quality in your own work and leverage your expertise to identify opportunities for improvement across the project

Requirements:

  • Established experience in the game industry as a Senior to Principal Lighting Artist, preferably on larger, complex productions
  • Extensive experience in lighting for real-time gameplay, with a deep understanding of gameplay experience and emotional storytelling
  • Expert eye for value, color, composition, and visual hierarchy
  • Proficient art and technical experience within Unreal Engine 4, with technical experience in balancing game-spanning illumination and emissive standards

  • A positive force multiplier across the team, with a willingness to mentor and support other Lighting Artists

Nice to Have:

  • Passion for narrative-driven games, particularly First Person Shooters
  • Traditional art, lighting, or cinematography background
  • Experience working with diverse internal and distributed teams
