As a Coding Specialist, you will be responsible for reviewing medical records, assigning ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, and ensuring diagnosis codes meet local and national medical necessity guidelines. You will also utilize coding resources, follow HIPAA regulations, and maintain a working knowledge of various laws and regulations that impact compliant coding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes with modifiers for services provided in the professional fee environment
  • Review medical records and applicable documentation to determine appropriate codes for services and diagnoses
  • Ensure diagnosis codes meet local and national medical necessity guidelines
  • Utilize coding resources and reference materials to ensure accuracy in coding
  • Follow HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality
  • Review and resolve coding edits and denials, and assist with rebilling claims when necessary

Requirements:

  • AAPC CPC certification required
  • 3+ years of experience in E/M coding, with knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and medical terminology
  • Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to apply creative approaches to complicated questions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports and maintain working relationships with physicians and staff
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams

Work Environment:

A standard business environment with moderate noise levels, requiring the ability to sit for extended periods, lift and move approximately 30 pounds non-routinely, and handle objects, tools, and controls.
