Chemistry Department Teaching Assistant - Fall 2023
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented graduate student to join our team as a Chemistry Department Teaching Assistant at the University of Kentucky. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in guiding students to a deeper comprehension of chemistry course material, while maintaining the utmost standard of responsibility, integrity, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach multiple course sections of a lower-level lab, typically the General Chemistry laboratory
- Prepare and clean up laboratories, manage safety, and provide instruction and monitoring to students
- Hold office hours, proctor exams, and evaluate student work according to rubrics
- Participate in professional development activities, including orientation, weekly meetings, and formal in-lab observations
- Maintain records and participate in other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Current UK graduate student in good standing with the Graduate School
- 3.0 GPA or higher
- Completion of General Chemistry with Lab and Organic Chemistry with Lab (CHE 105, 107, 111, and 113 or equivalents) with a grade of B or better
- Ability to lift and carry light-weight objects and stand for approximately 3 hours at a time
