Job description: Job Objectives: State Support Team Region 11 seeks an educational consultant with expertise in mathematics instruction to serve as a regional leader supporting districts and community schools in implementing high-quality, evidence-based math instruction aligned to Ohio’s Plan for K-12 Mathematics. This position focuses on building local capacity for instructional improvement by providing professional learning, technical assistance, and coaching across PK–12 settings.Qualifications: The following qualifications are considered as guidelines:
- Master’s Degree (i.e., education, special education, early childhood education, education administration, or appropriate related field or evidence of equivalency)
- Valid Ohio administrative or supervision license appropriate for the assignment
- Displays strong collaboration skills with internal team members and external stakeholders identifying opportunities to expand knowledge and skills and sharing information with colleagues.
- Exhibits expert knowledge in data analysis to identify internal and external critical needs and strategies to address priority needs. Demonstrates knowledge of federal laws and regulations aligned to SST Grant Agreement.
- Displays exceptional and professional written and verbal communication skills and modifies communication modes based on the audience.
- Promotes positive internal and external customer relations, including creating effective interpersonal relationships and projecting a professional image.
- Documentation of a clear criminal record in compliance with state statue
- Complies with drug-free workplace rules and Board policies.
- Valid Ohio driver's license
- Strong organizational, planning and project management skills.
- Ability to multi-task and demonstrate strong diplomacy skills.
- Proficient in office protocol and the use of information technology systems. Proficient in the use of office and management information software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
Candidates will exhibit strong skills, knowledge, and expertise in
- Ohio’s Learning Standards for Mathematics and the Standards for Mathematical Practice;
- High-quality instructional materials and the EdReports framework;
- Adult learning principles and job-embedded professional development models;
- Using data to drive instructional decisions and accelerate learning;
- Effective coaching and consultation skills in a school or district setting;
- Delivery of high-quality professional learning and technical assistance;
- Planning processes, including use of strategic problem-solving; and
- Implementation and improvement monitoring strategies.
Desired Attributes:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to lead change collaboratively.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines across varied stakeholders.
- Proficiency with virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams, Google Workspace, etc.);
- Experience working with historically underserved student groups.
- Familiarity with the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP) and Ohio's One Plan and ED STEPS process, as well as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA); and
- Knowledge of career pathways and real-world applications of mathematics.
Reports to: SST DirectorPerformance Responsibilities: * Collaborate with district leadership teams to develop and refine local mathematics visions and improvement plans aligned with Ohio’s statewide mathematics plan;
- Help districts evaluate and select standards-aligned, EdReports-rated instructional materials;
- Provide high-quality professional learning and job-embedded coaching at the district, building, and classroom level on:
- Implementation of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM)
- Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices (as defined by NCTM)
- Instructional strategies that support conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application;
- Analyze data from district- and state-level assessments to inform math instruction and interventions;
- Support implementation of just-in-time scaffolding and learning acceleration strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners;
- Facilitate professional learning communities and regional networks of math educators, coaches, and administrators;
- Collaborate with ESCs, State Support Teams, and higher education partners to support educator preparation;
- Provide technical assistance in building Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for mathematics; and
- Assist districts in cultivating student and family engagement strategies to support mathematical learning beyond the classroom.
- Review current research, literature, and technical resources of information related to job responsibilities.
- Attend professional development aligned with the scope of the work including opportunities to build knowledge regarding a broad range of data and reports resulting from Ohio’s accountability system and educator effectiveness programs to stay current on educational practices, resources, and legal issues.
- Cross-trains with other staff as directed and offers assistance when needed.
- Meets the qualification to provide the school improvement services outlined in Ohio’s Strategic Priorities for Education, Ohio’s Consolidated ESSA Plan, Ohio’s State Systemic Improvement Plan, Ohio’s Plan to Improve Educational Experiences and Outcomes for Students with Disabilities, 11 District Improvement Plan, Ohio Materials Matters and implementation of the grant activities outlined in the grant agreement.
- Serve as SST Consultant and have a general awareness and understanding of all aspects of SST work with the goal of collaboration and integration of work across all areas of focused support provided to school personnel and families in support of improved learning and outcomes.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the SST Director.
Compensation: Salary schedule placement commensurate with experience and training.
