Position Type: Full-time, W-2 (1099 considered)Position SummarySyneren Technologies is migrating a government system from on-premise Solaris/Oracle to a fully cloud-native stack in AWS GovCloud (EC2 + RDS PostgreSQL). We are seeking a hands-on Cloud Engineer / Programmer who can:


  • Design, provision, and automate GovCloud environments (Dev, Test, Stage, Prod) using infrastructure-as-code.

  • Contribute to Postgres SQL, Java back-end services, and a React + TypeScript UI.

  • Support performance tuning, debugging, and CI/CD pipelines within a FISMA High / FedRAMP High boundary.

You will collaborate with senior engineers, DBAs, security SMEs, and the customer to deliver a secure, resilient, and maintainable cloud solution.Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years professional experience in cloud engineering or full-stack software development (or a combined equivalent).

  • 3+ years hands-on AWS (EC2, IAM, VPC, S3, CloudWatch, CloudFormation/Terraform).

  • At least one of the following:



  • Strong SQL & PostgreSQL expertise (schema design, PL/pgSQL, performance tuning, logical/physical replication).

  • Java experience building back-end programs or APIs.

  • JavaScript/TypeScript and React proficiency for modern SPA development.

  • Proficient with Linux (RHEL/Amazon Linux) and shell scripting.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to produce clear architecture and run-book documentation.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Prior migration from Oracle PL/SQL to PostgreSQL or database-compatibility layers (e.g., AWS SCT, Babelfish).

  • Experience securing systems to FISMA High / FedRAMP High / DoD IL4-IL5 baselines.

  • Familiarity with AWS RDS Performance Insights, pg_stat_statements, and pgbadger.

  • Experience with TypeScript-based IaC (CDK) or Serverless Framework.

  • Knowledge of TIC 3.0, NIST 800-171, and Federal Government Cybersecurity policies.

  • Experience integrating MFA (Duo, Okta) for SSH, APEX, and database roles.

  • Cloud: AWS GovCloud, Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CLI, IAM, VPC, EC2, RDS PostgreSQL, S3, CloudWatch

  • Languages: Java, TypeScript, SQL/PLpgSQL, Bash

  • DevOps: GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, SonarQube, New Relic, Elasic

  • Monitoring: CloudWatch Logs & Metrics, AWS X-Ray, pgbadger

  • Security: AWS KMS, Secrets Manager, STIG/SCAP scans, NIST 800-53 controls

Success Indicators (First 6 Months) * Provisioned IaC baseline for all four environments, peer-reviewed and deployed via CI/CD.

  • Successful data load & smoke tests on RDS PostgreSQL with benchmark performance equal to or better than legacy Oracle.

  • Initial Java/React feature delivered to Dev and promoted through Stage with automated unit and integration tests.

  • Security control evidence (e.g., SC-7, AC-2, CM-6) generated and accepted by ISSO.
