We are seeking a talented and passionate individual to lead this new team. As the team supervisor, you will be at the forefront of strategic planning, project management, and resource allocation, all while making a significant impact on the future of Pierce County's Surface Water Management division.You will guide the planning, workflow, and ultimately the success of the teams responsible for the implementation of multiple capital projects across the County. Specific functions your new team will lead are capital plan development, project prioritization and evaluation, grant application and administration, utility rates and charges, performance measure tracking/reporting, and work planning. Your small but mighty team may include a grant coordinator, planner(s), and engineer(s), all doing their best work to keep our Pacific Northwest waters pristine. Critical to that success will be your highly effective communication, both written and verbal, to a wide variety of audiences, including PPW leadership, planning commissions, County Council, stakeholders, tribes, and the general public. Your ability to lead your team to successful collaboration with the public, tribes, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies will be key in implementing the surface water improvement plan and developing the annual capital budget. Determining stakeholder concerns, enabling growth, and leading your team with a vision in mind will enable the team's success as well.Your Future in this Role:You and your team will lead the planning and delivery strategy for Pierce County's surface water capital projects and programs.   • Participate in the preparation and monitoring of the budget, and assist in developing and implementing grants and departmental goals.
  • Provide leadership over assigned projects and programs.
  • Participate in and supervise the preparation and presentation of reports and information and present to County Officials, departments, external entities, and the general public regarding a wide range of planning functions and other related areas.
  • Develop, and prepare planning documents including drafting code amendments, regulations, and policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and administration of department/division initiatives, plans priority projects, strategic plans, consultant service contracts, and department programs.

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in planning or related field.
  • Four years local, county or state planning experience.
  • One year of lead worker and/or supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Project Management Professional certification or equivalent project management experience.
  • Master's degree.

After approximately six months, employees receive six days of vacation leave.

Some Pierce County employees may be designated to receive 10 "furlough" days per year in lieu of holidays. Furlough days are available for use on January 1 and must be scheduled and taken within the calendar year. Employees who leave employment with Pierce County must reimburse the employer for used furlough days based upon the number of remaining holidays.Sick Leave:
Sick leave accrues on a bi-weekly basis, at the rate of one day per month.Insurance Benefits:
