Job description: Job Posting Title: News Editor, ABC NewsReq ID: 10117957Job Description:ABC News is seeking a full-time Evening News Editor to join our Digital team.The person in this role will be helping to lead the charge editorially for ABC News Digital during the late afternoon and evening hours. The person in this role will be responsible for line editing text stories that are published on ABCNews.com, working with reporters, senior editors, our newsgathering operation, and our legal and standards teams. The ideal candidate should have experience working on breaking news stories for a digital platform in a fast-paced environment.This position is based in Los Angeles, generally working five days a week, 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. PT Tuesdays-Thursdays and 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. PT on Fridays and Saturdays, though those hours may occasionally shift based on staffing needs. Team members are currently working a hybrid model – with a mix of in-office days and remote working.Responsibilities:Assign and edit text storiesWhen necessary, write breaking news storiesWork with the newsgathering operation to determine what is reportableCollaborate with reporters, producers, editors, bookers and correspondentsCoordinate news coverage across different teamsConnect editorially with the New York-based team and the London-based team with a seamless hand-offBasic Qualifications:Minimum 3 years’ experience editing for a digital news outletAbility to write on deadline with speed and accuracyProven experience handling breaking newsWillingness and desire to collaborate across different teamsAbility to balance priorities, multiple projects and tasksBrings energy and positivity to the group dynamicPreferred Qualifications:Has experience running point on major breaking newsExperience collaborating with different teamsExcellent communication skillsMake editorial judgments on a minute-to-minute basisRequired Education:BA or BS from a 4-year accredited college or university or equivalent experiencePreferred Education:Master’s degree in journalism from an accredited college or university or equivalent experienceThe hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $78,200.00 to $104,800.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
