Library Director

Provide leadership and direction for Kellenberger Library operations, resources, and services. Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive and integrated information literacy plan, and provide and oversee bibliographic and information literacy instruction for students and faculty. Develop and implement a full range of appropriate research and reference services for students, faculty, and other users. Collaborate with faculty and administrators to promote and incorporate library services and instruction within the curriculum. In cooperation with library staff and faculty, develop the collection through ongoing and systematic selection and weeding. Requires evening and weekend hours.

Position Duties and Responsibilities: • Administration • Provided leadership and direction for Kellenberger Library • Facilitate strategic planning process and development of department goals. • Develop, monitor, and manage departmental budgets effectively and accurately • Cultivate and dispense gifts, memorials, special funds, and special projects in addition to the operational budget. Special funds include the Kendall Memorial Fund, Huff Memorial Fund, and Restricted Library Fund accounts • Establish, administer, and maintain assessment activities to measure departmental effectiveness and student learning outcomes as relevant. • Participate in assessment and other quality improvement activities • Personnel • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise professional staff and student workers. • Establish, interpret, maintain, and uphold policies and procedures, in collaboration with other library staff, as appropriate • Recognize diverse needs of various groups and adapt services to meet their needs • Collection Development • Monitor collection development including print, media, and electronic resources in support of university curriculum • Participate in ongoing communication through discussions and recommendations for purchases and collection development • Solicit and discuss information on research and instructional resource needs from faculty and patrons • Facilities, Systems, and Infrastructure • Ensure the maintenance of the physical facilities, equipment, supplies, space allocation, building keys, and security measures. • Manage the library’s online databases, including reviewing and being familiar with licenses, keeping our user base informed of updates and changes, and reviewing and recommending online resources to add or eliminate from our offerings. • Select and implement appropriate, cost-effective software programs to support administrative functions and delivery of services and resources • Assist with planning and implementation of library displays and outreach events • Reference and Instruction • Provide reference assistance, in-person and online, to the University communities. (Some evening and weekend hours may be required.) • Develop and provide integrated information literacy sessions within the curriculum • Create online instructional materials, like LibGuides, online tutorials, and other asynchronous methods. • Teach course-related library instruction sessions and stand-alone workshops • Promotion and Outreach • Oversees library orientation of services and resources for students and faculty, both formal and informal. • Participate in Library consortia such as OPALL (Oregon Private Academic Library Link). • Faculty Participation • Serve on university committees, including but not limited to, Gen Ed Committee and Curriculum Review Committee. • Cultivate and nurture relationships with faculty concerning the advocacy for and promotion of library resource and services • Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with students, staff, and faculty in support of student success • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Required Qualifications: • Education and Knowledge • MLIS from ALA-accredited program • Strong familiarity with ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education • Commitment to ongoing professional development • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook • Skills and Abilities • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills • Quick learner; committed to efficiency and accuracy • Effective communicator, both written and verbal, with demonstrated ability to employ tact, empathy, patience, and respect with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver engaging and effective presentations in a variety of settings and modalities • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish positive and productive collaborations with faculty and library colleagues • Collaborative team player with ability to work independently • Creative, resourceful, and flexible • Self-motivated, dependable, and reliable • Exercises sound judgment and decision-making • Professional Values: • Demonstrated commitment to a high level of professionalism • Demonstrated commitment to public service, student-centered values, and outreach • Physical Requirements • Ability to perform the physical tasks, including moving loaded book carts, retrieving and shelving books from low and high shelves, climbing stairs, occasional moderate lifting, and visually reading computer screens, paper forms, and information in library materials such as books or videos.

Preferred Qualifications: • Professional experience, in an academic library environment • Demonstrated commitment to serving online students and first-generation college students • Experience with instructional design concepts and/or educational technology • Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups • Demonstrated commitment to professional achievement, scholarship, and service • Positive successful experience working with Information Technology and other departments to accomplish mutually beneficial goals. • Positive successful experience working with product and service vendors. • Proficient in working with Koha, EBSCO EDS, and EZ Proxy
