Overview: The Teen Mentor at Neighbors For Kids is responsible for providing guidance, support, and mentorship to teenagers enrolled in our afterschool program. This position plays a crucial role in helping teens build essential life skills, develop positive relationships, and engage in meaningful activities during their out-of-school hours. Key Responsibilities: Mentorship and Guidance: Establish a rapport with teenage participants and provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for them. Serve as a positive role model, promoting character development and responsible behavior. Offer emotional support, active listening, and guidance to help teens navigate personal challenges and decisions. Academic Support:Assist teenagers with homework, study skills, and academic goal setting. Encourage a love for learning by promoting curiosity and critical thinking. Skill Development:Plan and facilitate workshops and activities that promote the development of life skills, such as communication, leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork. Help teens set and work towards personal and academic goals. Recreational Activities:Organize and supervise recreational activities and outings that promote physical health, creativity, and teamwork. Encourage teens to explore new interests and hobbies. Conflict Resolution:Teach conflict resolution techniques and help teens resolve conflicts peacefully and constructively. Foster a culture of respect, tolerance, and understanding among participants. Communication:Maintain open and regular communication with program staff, parents/guardians, and school personnel as necessary. Document and report any concerns, incidents, or achievements related to the teenagers. Safety and Rules Enforcement:Enforce program rules and safety guidelines consistently. Ensure the well-being and safety of all participants at all times. Qualifications: • Must be at least 18 years old. • High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in education, psychology, or a related field preferred. • Experience working with teenagers, preferably in an educational or mentoring capacity. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trust with teenagers. • Reliable, responsible, and punctual. • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from program coordinators. • Pass a background check and any required certifications. Physical Requirements: • Ability to stand, sit, and engage in physical activities with teenagers. • Ability to respond quickly in case of emergencies or safety concerns.
