Services and maintains refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning systems by determining malfunction and replacing or repairing defective parts or components. Description of Job Function 2. Installs new window or wall air conditioning units or removes and replaces existing units as required. Troubleshoots and makes necessary repairs, replaces compressors, fan motors, and charge units. Services and repairs air compressors. Description of Job Function 3. Performs preventative maintenance on heating and air conditioning systems and other campus appliances and equipment. Description of Job Function 4. Changes filters on air conditioners; performs plumbing and electrical repairs on heating and air conditioning and other mechanical systems as required. Description of Job Function 5. Operates and maintains any other mechanical systems or equipment on campuses and assists in plumbing installations. Description of Job Function 6. Performs other work found in the maintenance technician’s classification as required. Description of Job Function 7. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Drivers License Requirement Drivers License Requirement REQUIRED: Must possess valid Driver’s License. Employee will be required to operate a college vehicle, including but not limited to on and between campuses and in the local community, in order to perform the essential job functions. Required Qualifications Required Minimum Education High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Required Field of Study Other Required Qualifications Experience in one or more of the following fields: heating and air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and/or temperature control systems. Required License/Certification Must possess a valid Driver’s License. Refrigerant Recovery Certification. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Education & Field of Study Preferred Type of Experience Preferred Licenses/Certification Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of all types of heating and air conditioning systems, plumbing, electronic, electrical, and temperature control. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blue prints, wiring diagrams, specifications, and operating manuals. Knowledge of construction, assembly, adjustment, and maintenance of a wide variety of equipment. Knowledge of all types of shop tools, meters, and other required equipment used in the trade. Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools commonly utilized in the repair and services of refrigeration equipment. Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse student populations. Working Conditions General Working Conditions This job primarily operates throughout the College’s worksites and grounds. The employee may be exposed to elements including but not limited to wet/humid weather, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and unpleasant odors. The role may also involve hazards or physical risks, which require comprehending and following basic safety precautions and may require Personal Protection Equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud. Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to remaining stationary, moving, ascending/descending, positioning self, reaching, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-100 pounds. This job also entails communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
