About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our Data Science & Analytics team, focusing on Customer Service. As a Data Engineer at blithequark, you will play a crucial role in building reliable, scalable data pipelines, transforming raw data into core business metrics, and working with custom visualization tools to surface Customer Service insights. You will collaborate closely with data engineers, software engineers, and CS business owners to deliver a delightful, efficient experience for our members and improve our product based on their feedback.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain large-scale data pipelines using big data technologies such as Hive, Presto, Spark, and Flink, with a focus on medium to large-scale data sets (10s of millions of records)
  • Apply strong data modeling skills to create adaptable structures that can accommodate changes in source data or business processes
  • Write clean, supportable code in Python or Scala, with a passion for delivering high-quality solutions
  • Demonstrate advanced SQL skills and advocate for data quality, ensuring that our data is accurate, reliable, and actionable
  • Think critically and analytically to develop business metrics and prioritize tasks autonomously, with a strong understanding of business problems and their solutions
  • Communicate effectively and build productive partnerships with analysts, engineers, and business leaders to drive business outcomes

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • At least 4 years of experience engineering data pipelines using big data technologies on medium to large-scale data sets
  • Strong data modeling skills, with the ability to design adaptable structures that can accommodate changes in source data or business processes
  • Proficiency in Python or Scala, with a passion for writing clean, supportable code
  • Advanced SQL skills and a strong understanding of data quality principles
  • Analytical aptitude, with the ability to think critically and develop business metrics
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build productive partnerships with cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms and technologies
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools and techniques, with the ability to communicate complex data insights effectively
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems such as Git
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements
