Description: The Student Engagement Librarian drives student success by designing and delivering engaging research instruction, providing direct assistance, and managing essential collection development. This position actively collaborates with campus partners to integrate library services into student support efforts and represents the library at campus events. A critical component of the role is supervising and mentoring student employees under the college's labor program, while also contributing to campus governance and pursuing professional development. Your Key Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Collaborate with campus partners and student leaders to integrate library services into student support efforts, promote engagement, and represent the library at campus events. • Support student success through supervision, mentoring, active involvement in student-centered programs and activities, and coordinate programs aligned with patron interests. • Design and deliver in-person and online instruction, including workshops, tutorials, research guides, and class sessions across disciplines. • Provide research assistance through in-person and virtual reference services, including scheduled consultations, as assigned, including one night per week and occasional weekends. • Perform collection development and liaison responsibilities, including evaluating, selecting, and weeding print, audiovisual, and electronic materials. • Remain informed on trends in academic librarianship and participate in professional development through research, creative projects, and involvement in relevant organizations. • Contribute to campus service and governance through participation in departmental, divisional, and college-wide committees, initiatives, and program development. • In support of Berea College's great commitments, this position requires student supervision. What You'll Bring: Education required to ensure success in this position: • Master's in Library Science (MLS), Master's in Library and Information Science (MLIS), or an equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution required. Candidates in their final semester of an MLS/MLIS program are encouraged to apply. Experience required to ensure success in this position: • At least one year of library related experience • Experience with outreach, programming, or other initiatives designed to engage students or community is preferred. Special skills, knowledge, and abilities: • Creativity, initiative, and interest in innovative approaches to reference/research assistance, library instruction, and liaison work. • Demonstrated understanding of issues and trends in reference and information literacy. • Strong understanding of pedagogy and best practices in information literacy. • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to foster positive working relationships and build partnerships. • Demonstrated ability to work proactively and effectively with faculty. • Strong understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives for academic libraries. • Effective time, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative team.
