YouTube Editor for FERN-style Armchair Documentary
About the role
We’re building a FERN-style, faceless documentary channel. We need a story-driven editor who can turn a rough cut into a tight, cinematic, high-retention video.
Your starting materials (we provide):
Final narration (VO)
A timeline with pre-placed footage synced to VO (with base atmos/SFX where relevant)
The rough structure is done. You may swap/augment shots where needed.
What you’ll do (editorial polish):
Set the tempo & rhythm (micro-pacing, cutting on sense beats)
Add music, additional SFX/foley, and enhance atmos
Add captions (selective on-screen text), tasteful filters/LUTs, and light graphics where helpful
Color balance/grade for consistency; audio mix (dialogue/music/SFX balance)
Insert real/stock footage where needed for credibility and variety
Ensure continuity, clean transitions, chapter markers (if needed)
Cadence & length
1 video per week
Typical runtime: 8–15 minutes
Must-have
Strong portfolio in documentary / armchair YouTube editing (FERN-style a plus)
Proven ability to hold attention with audio-visual storytelling
Proficiency in DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Premiere Pro (AE a plus)
Sense for music curation, SFX, and narrative beats
Reliability, detail, and taste—treat the project like your own
Nice to have
Experience with crime/history/science explainers
Basic motion design for maps, dates, labels
