The Software Development Engineer (SDE) supports and enhances Delta’s Fuel Management Systems (FMS and FUMES)—mission-critical applications that optimize and track aviation fuel operations globally. This role combines deep technical expertise with business understanding to modernize the legacy FMS into the next-generation FUMES platform built in AWS, driving automation, analytics, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is a full-stack engineer skilled in Angular, Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL, with hands-on experience in AWS services such as Lambda, Glue, API Gateway, CloudWatch, and QuickSight. They should be comfortable leveraging AI-assisted development tools and collaborating with cross-functional business and IT teams. Key Responsibilities Development & Modernization • Design, develop, and deploy front-end applications in Angular and TypeScript for the FUMES user interface. • Build and maintain server-side services using Node.js integrated with AWS Lambda and API Gateway. • Implement and optimize data pipelines using AWS Glue for ETL and analytics workloads. • Develop PostgreSQL database schemas, stored procedures, and queries to support both transactional and reporting needs. • Integrate AI-powered tools (e.g., Amazon Q, predictive analytics, anomaly detection) to improve efficiency and data insights. • Modernize legacy FMS components into cloud-native microservices within AWS. • Develop dashboards and data visualizations in AWS QuickSight for fuel consumption, cost analysis, and performance metrics. Collaboration & Business Partnership • Partner with fuel operations, finance, and data analytics teams to translate business requirements into scalable solutions. • Work closely with architects and cloud engineers to ensure compliance with Delta’s InfoSec, data, and architecture standards. • Participate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, planning, retrospectives) and contribute to sprint delivery with quality and innovation in mind. • Support QA testing, peer code reviews, and release readiness for multi-region deployments (Dev, QA, Prod). Support & Continuous Improvement • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across front-end, API, and database layers. • Utilize AWS CloudWatch for application logging, monitoring, and performance optimization. • Contribute to DevOps automation and CI/CD pipelines. • Document technical processes, architecture patterns, and lessons learned. • Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring within the team on modern cloud and AI-driven practices. What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications) • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience). • 5+ years of full-stack development experience using: • Front-End: Angular, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3 • Back-End: Node.js, Express.js • Database: PostgreSQL (schema design, optimization, stored procedures) • Proven experience with AWS cloud services: Lambda, Glue, API Gateway, CloudWatch, QuickSight, and S3. • Strong understanding of RESTful API design and integration patterns. • Familiarity with AI-powered development tools or data-driven automation concepts. • Knowledge of software versioning, CI/CD, and Git workflows. • Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum principles. • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data. • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles. • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency. • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States. What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) • Experience supporting or modernizing a legacy Fuel Management System (FMS). • Experience using Amazon Q, Copilot, or similar AI-assisted coding and troubleshooting tools. • Understanding of aviation or fuel operations business processes. • Exposure to data analytics or machine learning integrations for fuel or operational forecasting. • Working knowledge of AWS IAM, CloudFormation, or CDK for infrastructure-as-code. Soft Skills • Clear communicator who can bridge technical and business perspectives. • Proactive, curious, and committed to continuous learning. • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills with a focus on shared team success.
