Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Personal Care Assistant to join our team of dedicated professionals. As a Personal Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs, providing individualized care and assistance to ensure their physical, emotional, and social well-being. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide behavioral, physical, health, and social services to students who are physically, emotionally, or behaviorally challenged
  • Operate and monitor a variety of health equipment, ensuring the safety and well-being of our students
  • Assist students on a one-to-one or group basis in meeting the physical requirements of attending school, including toileting, feeding, and mobility support
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and provide consistent support to students
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and medical information, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to district policies and procedures
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training, to enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting students with special needs

Essential Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent is required
  • Experience providing health care services and working with physically handicapped children is desirable
  • A current and valid Standard/Basic First Aid Certificate is required
  • A current and valid CPR Certificate (Child and Adult) is required
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds or over 50 pounds with assistance, and push/pull students of varying weights in wheelchairs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other support staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in an educational setting, particularly with students with special needs
  • Knowledge of special education laws, policies, and procedures, including IEPs and Section 504 plans
  • Experience with behavioral interventions and strategies, including positive behavioral supports and crisis prevention
  • Ability to speak multiple languages, with a focus on languages spoken by our student population
  • Completion of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) program or equivalent training

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to district policies and procedures

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and needs
