Job Overview
As an Early Years Teacher at LSF, you will have the opportunity to work with pre-school aged children or infants/toddlers in our Head Start/Early Heart Start Program. Your primary responsibility will be to plan, develop, and implement daily lesson plans that provide educational and enrichment activities for the children in your care. You will also be responsible for creating a safe and effective learning environment, assessing children's developmental and educational needs, and developing individual education plans to support their growth and development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and implement daily lesson plans that provide educational and enrichment activities for pre-school age children or infants and toddlers
- Screen and assess children to determine developmental/educational needs and develop individual education plans
- Monitor meal and snack periods, classroom and restroom activities, and playground activities to ensure a safe environment for young children
- Document children's progress and complete all required manual and computerized forms and reports
- Communicate with parents through parent conferences, written correspondence, and telephone to apprise them of child's progress and other relevant information
- Conduct health checks on children and report any health concerns to the appropriate Health Coordinator
- Ensure lessons and classroom activities align with the Florida Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Standards and conduct assessments as required
- Maintain a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child, including weekly observations and developmental assessments
Essential Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need to have an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, as well as two years of experience teaching Head Start, Early Head Start, pre-school, or kindergarten age children. You should also have a working knowledge of brain development, child development, and developmentally appropriate practices for early childhood education. Bilingual skills in English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area are preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field
- Experience working with children with special needs
- Knowledge of behavior modification theories and practices relating to early childhood development
- Experience with curriculum development and implementation
Skills and Competencies:
To excel in this role, you will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others. You should also be able to work effectively with infants, toddlers, and pre-school age children, and have the ability to resolve conflicts and provide physical assistance when needed. Additionally, you should be able to maintain confidentiality, follow established procedures, and administer CPR and First Aid as needed.
