Qualifications: Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience in endangered species listing and/or recoveryOR BA/BS Degree in Biological sciences, natural resource management or relateddisciplines appropriate to the position. Extensive experience with listing or recovery planning under the ESA,specifically SSAs, RPs, or similar. Examples of experience may include:preparing rapid data assessments, SSAs, listing/delisting packages, recoveryoutlines, RPs, and Recovery Implementation Strategies; participating in teamsreviewing biological and commercial data to ensure reliability, credibility, oroverall quality; applying the principles and regulations which govern the ESAand other pertinent natural resource management statutes.Ability to work both within a team setting, but also independently.Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.Self-motivated with ability to maintain a positive attitude.Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPointDuties: The Recovery Planning Biologist(s) will work with Service staff and partners tomeet statutory obligations and provide effective recovery roadmaps for specieslisted as Endangered or Threatened under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).Duties will include drafting initial Species Status Assessments (SSAs), RecoveryPlans (RPs), and Recovery Implementation Strategies (RISs) for listed speciesthat do not have these documents or updating existing documents when newinformation has become available. Drafting and completion of Species Status Assessments and Recovery Plans:works collaboratively with Service staff and partners to complete SSAs and RPsfor listed species. Organizes, produces, and delivers the final administrativefile upon project completion. Organizes, maintains, and helps address peer,technical, and public review comments, and ensures final incorporation ofsubstantive comments into deliverables. 60%Data collection, compilation, testing, and analysis: collects and cleansavailable/relevant data and literature on the species, develops suggestions foranalytical methods and/or recovery strategies. Analyzes data for inclusion incurrent and future condition assessments. 25%Communication/representation/liaison/outreach: maintains contact andcommunication with Service staff and partners to complete SSAs and/orRPs. 15% Other:Physical requirements: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enableindividuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of thisposition.
