Job Summary

As a Special Education Substitute Teacher with Scoot Education, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of students and teachers in Denver, CO. You will be responsible for following and teaching lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, instructing based on subject and grade-specific curriculum, monitoring and assessing student achievements and outcomes, exercising classroom and behavior management skills, and sharing your specialized knowledge to coach staff and support special education students. We offer a competitive salary package, including up to $273 for day-to-day assignments and more for long-term assignments, as well as a range of benefits and perks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow and teach lesson plans provided by the regular teacher
  • Instruct based on subject and grade-specific curriculum
  • Monitor and assess student achievements and outcomes
  • Exercise classroom and behavior management skills
  • Share your specialized knowledge to coach staff and support special education students
  • Participate in 1:1 check-ins and discuss school feedback with your Scoot consultant
  • Provide input on your needs and preferences to ensure optimal assignment matching

Essential Qualifications

  • Active Teaching license with a special education generalist (5-21) and/or special education specialist (5-21) endorsement(s)
  • Substitute Authorization (must have or be in the process of obtaining if license is expired)
  • Three References with one by a previous direct supervisor
  • Complete a Background Check for Scoot Education (you'll be reimbursed for the cost on your first paycheck!)
  • Complete a Background Check for the Colorado Department of Education (to receive your Substitute Authorization; you will not be reimbursed for the cost)

  • Experience working with students with diverse needs and abilities
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed teaching practices and classroom management strategies
  • Experience working with teachers and staff to support student learning
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
