Key Responsibilities
As a Legal Word Processor at Shutts & Bowen, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Working from 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a mandatory on-call weekend rotation to ensure seamless support to the firm's operations
- Actively engaging with all office locations, providing helpdesk support, and general office assistance as needed
- Demonstrating exceptional document management skills, including formatting and styling documents, creating tables of contents (TOCs) and tables of authorities (TOAs), document conversions, formatting, and transcription
- Staying up-to-date with the latest technology and software changes within the firm to maintain expertise in document preparation
- Troubleshooting document-related issues effectively and efficiently
- Following departmental procedures and clearly understanding instructions for assigned tasks
- Providing exceptional support to attorneys and staff, ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks
Essential Qualifications and Skills
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications and skills:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a law firm or legal environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Best Case, Best Authority, iManage, Forte, Litera, and any additional necessary software
- Excellent written and verbal skills, with strong business English spelling and grammar
- Excellent time management and organization skills, with the ability to prioritize workload and adjust to changing priorities
- A friendly, cooperative manner and good team spirit, with the ability to work effectively with attorneys and staff
- Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments and adapt to changing circumstances
- Ability to type at 80+ words per minute and demonstrate active listening, reading, service orientation, coordination, and social perceptiveness
