Position Overview

The Analytics Director role is a senior leadership position that reports to the Chief Pricing Actuary and is responsible for leading the development of our new Commercial Analytics Data Mart as part of our overall data and analytics strategy. This position requires a strong and diverse skillset, with a deep understanding of data engineering, analytics, and business acumen. As a key member of the pricing leadership team, you will work closely with actuarial leaders across business units, as well as the broader enterprise data and analytics function, to drive business growth and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, lead, and manage a high-performing team of data engineers and analytics consultants, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback to drive team success.
  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and data warehouse solutions, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems and environments.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and various systems groups to define requirements and create reporting infrastructure that meets business needs.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and priorities, driving timely and successful delivery of data engineering projects.
  • Develop and implement data engineering best practices and standards, ensuring consistency and excellence in data management and analytics.
  • Drive process improvements and innovation within the Commercial Data team, leveraging emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance business outcomes.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and innovation, influencing and negotiating with stakeholders to support strategic goals and objectives.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, with a strong foundation in data engineering and analytics.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 2 years in a managerial role, leading technical teams and driving business outcomes.
  • Eligible to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future (i.e., US Citizen or green card required).
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with experience developing ETL systems and designing data architectures.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, and strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts and data engineering tools.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • General insurance knowledge, with a background in the property and casualty industry, providing a deep understanding of business needs and challenges.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, and a strong appreciation for iterative development and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau, enabling effective communication of insights and recommendations.
  • Programming skills in R, providing an additional layer of analytical capability and flexibility.
