About the Role
As a Senior Database Administrator II at blithequark, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining databases to support the organization's operations. This involves a range of tasks, from troubleshooting and resolving database issues to developing and enforcing best practices for database management.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate and resolve daily database and application issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
- Play a key role in documenting existing systems and processes, and contribute to the development of standards and procedures for database management.
- Support multiple databases in development, staging, and production environments across local and remote data centers.
- Design and maintain high-availability SQL Server configurations, including clustering, replication, and mirroring.
- Collaborate with application teams to resolve database issues and implement database-related solutions.
- Install and manage server-based application software, working closely with system administrators.
- Develop and enforce best practices for database objects, such as stored procedures, triggers, and tables.
- Optimize database performance through tuning, indexing, and other techniques as needed.
- Design and maintain enterprise ETL processes using various ETL tools, including SSIS, .NET scripting, and T-SQL.
- Perform routine database maintenance tasks and generate system reports.
- Develop and implement security models to protect database systems and associated applications.
- Participate in application development cycles to ensure good database design and access practices.
- Plan, prepare, and test backup and recovery strategies for all production databases.
- Monitor database performance and periodically update databases for optimal performance during scheduled maintenance windows.
- Create indexes and adjust tuning parameters as necessary to enhance performance.
- Calculate volumetric requirements to estimate new database sizes and plan accordingly for growth.
- Communicate plans and designs to system administrators.
- Ensure the security of database systems and associated business applications, including account management, patching, and security auditing.
- Participate in load testing activities and monitor database performance and health.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A strong background in client-server technology.
- Working knowledge of SQL Server.
- 5+ years of experience as a SQL DBA in enterprise, multi-site SQL Server environments.
- Intermediate to advanced skills with SSIS and T-SQL.
- Effective written and oral communication skills, as well as organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Readiness and demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer support.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following skills and experiences are highly valued:
- Experience with Microsoft Azure technologies and deploying databases into cloud environments.
- Reporting Services (SSRS) and Analysis Services (SSAS) experience.
- Experience with .NET scripting (C# or VB.NET) as well as PowerShell.
- Experience in the automotive industry.
- Experience with CRM systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
