Position at a Glance:

  • Job Title: Youth Center Program Assistant (Leader Level)
  • Location: Fort Dix, NJ (Remote work options available)
  • Compensation: $22.52 per hour
  • Start Date: Immediate openings available
  • Schedule: Part-time (20-40 hours per week)

Key Responsibilities:

As a Youth Center Program Assistant (Leader Level), you will be responsible for:

  • Serving as a team leader for program staff, with responsibility for the operation and program in accordance with applicable regulations
  • Overseeing the arrival and departure of children and youth, and ensuring their safety and well-being at all times
  • Supervising children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years during daily schedules of indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings, and special events
  • Encouraging participant interest and establishing a program setting that promotes positive child and youth interactions with other children, youth, and adults
  • Monitoring staff/child or youth ratios to ensure adequate staffing
  • Planning, coordinating, and conducting activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children/youth
  • Preparing and implementing program options for children and youth with special requirements
  • Working with trainers and supervisors to implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children and youth
  • Maintaining a clean and safe environment, including arranging and maintaining indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials
  • Assisting children and youth with special projects, homework, and life skills
  • Interacting with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques
  • Interacting professionally with staff members, parents, supervisors, and volunteers
  • Participating in conferences with parents, program staff, and other representatives (as applicable)
  • Briefing other employees and parents, and noting special instructions provided by parents

Requirements and Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds or more and stand for long periods of time
  • Must possess maturity and good judgment, and have a genuine interest in working with children and youth
  • Must have completed an Associate of Art degree in early childhood education, youth development, or a related field, or have a Child Development Associate Credential or a Youth Development Credential (must remain current)
  • Must have one year of experience at the CY03 level or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a youth development or child care setting
  • Knowledge of child development principles and practices
  • Experience with program planning and implementation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
