Job Summary

As an ESS Self-Contained Community-Based Teacher, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality instruction and support to students in community-based settings. You will work collaboratively with stakeholders to design and implement individualized lesson plans, assess student progress, and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., students, parents, colleagues) to establish and maintain positive relationships and high expectations for student learning.
  • Design and implement instruction (e.g., lesson plans, individualized instruction) that meets the diverse needs of students and aligns with state and district standards.
  • Develop and guide learning in partnership with students, setting classroom mission and learning goals, and celebrating student achievements.
  • Evaluate individual student and class performance, analyzing assessment data and adjusting instruction to improve student outcomes.
  • Implement current best practices in instruction and resource utilization, focusing on student needs and goals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and required reports, ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
  • Manage classroom structure and procedures, establishing a positive, safe, and orderly learning environment that supports student achievement.
  • Model positive behaviors, promoting professional and ethical conduct, and honoring diversity and mutual respect.
  • Oversee assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers, ensuring effective classroom operations.
  • Participate in meetings, professional growth opportunities, and parent-teacher conferences, conveying and gathering information to support student success.
  • Respond to emergency situations, resolving immediate safety concerns and directing students to appropriate personnel as needed.

Essential Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current Louisiana teacher certification.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design, classroom management, and assessment strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in general computer use, email, and other job-specific software and applications.
  • A commitment to maintaining a high standard of professional conduct and adhering to district policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly valued:

  • Experience working in community-based settings or with diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of best practices in special education, including individualized instruction and assessment.
  • Experience with data analysis and progress monitoring, using assessment data to inform instruction.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
