As an Ivy League College Counselor with us, you'll play a crucial role in guiding and supporting our students on their journey to college and career readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions with students to assess their academic and career goals, providing personalized guidance and support.
  • Provide information and guidance on college admissions requirements, standardized testing, and application procedures, ensuring students are well-prepared for the college admissions process.
  • Assist students in creating a well-rounded college list based on their interests and aspirations, helping them identify the best-fit institutions.
  • Review and edit college application essays and resumes, utilizing your strong editing skills to ensure high-quality submissions.
  • Organize college fairs, information sessions, and workshops for students and parents, fostering a sense of community and providing valuable resources.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with college admissions officers, staying up-to-date on the latest admissions trends and requirements.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to support student success, ensuring a cohesive and comprehensive approach to college preparation.
  • Stay current with changes in college admissions policies and requirements, continually updating your knowledge to provide the best possible guidance.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

To excel as an Ivy League College Counselor with Vanguard College Prep, you'll need:

  • A Bachelor's or graduate degree from a Top 20 U.S. University, demonstrating academic excellence and a strong educational background.
  • Strong editing skills and mastery of the English language, with the ability to review and refine college application essays and resumes.
  • A flexible schedule and willingness to work with students' schedules, including evenings and weekends during the busy season (August-December).
  • Access to a reliable internet connection and a workspace with minimal noise/distraction, ensuring you can work effectively in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

While not required, the following qualifications and skills can enhance your application:

  • A degree in a communication-based field (English, Language Arts, Journalism, Creative Writing, Publishing, Anthropology, Public Policy, etc.), providing a strong foundation in writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience tutoring high school and/or college-aged students in writing, demonstrating your ability to guide and support students in their academic pursuits.
  • Editing experience, especially in positions that require heavy editing to meet organizational standards, showcasing your attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Experience in the college preparation service industry and/or college admissions, providing valuable insight and expertise in the field.
  • Experience teaching remotely, using tools such as Google Hangout, Google Drive, and Google Classroom, highlighting your ability to adapt to a virtual environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask, balance multiple deadlines, and take responsibility for students' progress, ensuring you can manage the demands of the role.
  • A dynamic and outgoing personality, enabling you to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

Compensation and Benefits

  • A starting pay of $18.00 - $22.00 per hour, depending on education, experience, and skill.
  • An hourly rate that applies to student sessions, as well as all prep work, editing, professional development, backend projects, and staff meetings, ensuring you're paid for every minute you work.
