About the SJSU School of Music
The SJSU School of Music is a thriving community of artist-teachers, with a faculty roster of approximately 60 professionals who provide individualized instruction and mentorship to students. The school is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and presents over 200 performances per season throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. As a Music Lecturer Pool member, you will be part of a rich musical landscape that values creativity, innovation, and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach courses in music theory, history, and performance, including applied instruction in band and orchestral instruments, voice, and keyboard
- Develop and deliver inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement to a diverse student population
- Organize and manage classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS)
- Ensure that all classes meet as scheduled throughout the semester or term, in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid)
- Evaluate and assess student learning, providing constructive feedback and guidance
- Participate in departmental and university service, as required
Qualifications and Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in music or a related field (or Bachelor of Music plus exceptional professional achievement for studio instrumental, opera, voice, jazz, and popular music candidates)
- Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population
- Ability to evaluate and assess adult learners
- Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the college or university level
- Experience working with diverse student populations
- Knowledge of best practices in music education and pedagogy
- Familiarity with the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS)

Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated starting salary for this position is $4530 - $5405 per month, with a range of $6190 - $8554 per month for more experienced candidates. The salary range is determined by qualifications and experience. In addition to competitive compensation, SJSU offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
