As an Instructional Paraprofessional, you will be an integral part of our team, working closely with teachers, therapists, and other specialists to provide comprehensive support to students with special needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct instruction and/or academic support and supervision for students with social/emotional disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) while in special education and general education classrooms and other areas within the school building.
- Modify academic materials and/or the classroom environment under the direction of the Special Education teacher or other Related Service Providers.
- Facilitate peer relationships and natural supports, and follow through with prescribed behavior intervention plans throughout the school and community.
- Maintain required forms and records as requested by the Special Education Teacher and/or Related Service Providers.
- De-escalate students as needed using approved CPI measures, as well as following the prescribed Behavior Intervention Plan.
- Communicate observations, concerns, activities, and progress with the Special Education Teachers and other Therapists or Specialists.
- Assist both Special Education and General Education teachers with minor clerical duties as needed.
- Attend trainings as required by Building Principal, Special Education Teacher, and/or Director of Special Education.
- Collaborate with other paraprofessionals and follow direct instruction from the special education team.
- Implement daily routines and schedules for individual students to ensure consistency.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications and skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as Behavior Intervention Plans, IEPs, and staff and student handbooks.
- Basic math and accounting skills, including the ability to apply concepts of algebra and geometry.
- Good oral and written communication, English language, interpersonal relations, customer service, and public relations skills.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, tasks, and interruptions, and to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
- Physical ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred at the time of hire or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire.
- Ability to pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical and a Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check.
Preferred Experience
While not required, previous experience instructing individuals or small groups of students in reading, writing, or math is highly preferred. Additionally, experience working with children or in a classroom setting is desirable.
What We Offer
At Workwarp and 27J Schools, we offer a competitive salary range of $18.61 to $22.96 per hour, depending on recent relevant experience. Our 8-hour workday, Tuesday through Friday, follows a 9-month work schedule, paid over 12 months.
