Position Overview

As a Staff Software Engineering Manager at Workwarp, you will be responsible for leading the claims data strategy and execution, driving the development of high-performing open-source solutions that integrate with our applications. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Enterprise Data Governance, Product, and Business teams, to ensure our platform supports governance initiatives and delivers exceptional customer experiences. Your technical expertise, leadership skills, and passion for innovation will be instrumental in driving our success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a technical roadmap that increases the velocity of product delivery and unlocks new engineering capabilities.
  • Partner with Enterprise Data Governance, Product, and Business teams to ensure platform alignment with governance initiatives and customer needs.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, presenting detailed solutions and alternatives to stakeholders.
  • Report on team progress, presenting ideas for improvement and influencing product or project delivery.
  • Initiate and support performance evaluations, cultivating a culture that motivates team members to achieve higher levels of performance.
  • Identify technical or analytical skill gaps and craft plans to remediate, challenging team members to share knowledge and learn new technologies.
  • Execute difficult conversations on development and performance, providing coaching and feedback to team members.
  • Craft and deliver strategic, persuasive arguments to drive process improvement, cost leadership, and customer experience enhancements.
  • Manage up to leadership, providing feedback and insights to inform decision-making.
  • Administer coaching plans and Performance Improvement Plans, ensuring team members receive support and guidance.
  • Develop and manage team budgets, reporting on results and outcomes at regular intervals.
  • Contribute to team planning, surfacing associate-level proposals and driving innovation in our data-driven organization.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with tech teams and business partners, fostering a culture of collaboration and mutual respect.

Essential Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of data ingestion, transformation, management, quality, and lineage concepts.
  • Working knowledge of object-oriented development, Gang of Four (GOF) Design Patterns, Microservices, Dependency Injection with IOC containers, and frontend and backend unit testing.
  • Proven ability to concentrate and demonstrate a capacity for learning technical concepts and adapting to new technologies quickly.
  • Strong Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) platform knowledge and experience with big data open-source tools (Spark, Iceberg, Superset, Flink).
  • Experience in Data Engineering and modern warehousing technologies, such as Snowflake.
  • Fluency in programming languages, including Java, Python, .NET, and experience with SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle), Data Ingestion, and streaming tooling (Kafka, Spark, or similar technologies).
  • Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments, as well as designing, building, optimizing, and scaling solutions using distributed computing.
  • Strong leadership experience leading, coaching, and developing teams and associates in software or data engineering or similar roles.
  • Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines and build and release practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years of coding experience, with 5+ years of development in large-scale, mission-critical environments.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience supervising personnel in technical environments, with 2+ years of experience with automated testing (Unit, Integration, and End-to-End functional testing).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits
