Job Overview

The Organ Placement Coordinator (OPC) - Night Shift is responsible for maximizing the utilization of abdominal and research organs from local donors as well as import offers and accepted import organs. As an OPC, you will be accountable for activities related to the allocation and utilization of organs from local donors, including receiving, inputting, and evaluating all new organ-related referrals, abdominal organ allocation for transplant and research, coordination of operating room timing, travel logistics, communication, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) policy and provide guidance to the team to ensure compliance.
  • Serve as the principal source of donor information throughout the allocation and procurement process to transplant centers, UNOS staff, and LiveOnNY Transplant Coordinators.
  • Assist the Donor Center as needed to take incoming calls and enter referrals from hospital partners and donor families.
  • Effectively and transparently communicate pertinent donor information to transplant programs to protect patient safety and maximize organ utilization.
  • Arrange ground and air transportation for recovery teams and develop case-specific transportation strategies to minimize organ ischemia time.
  • Facilitate import kidney and pancreas allocation in accordance with LiveOnNY and OPTN policies, including organ, kidney, pancreas, lung, and liver organ offers.
  • Coordinate transportation of blood, tissue typing materials, and biopsies to laboratories.

Work Schedule

This role requires working on the night shift, with 12.5-hour shifts from 7:30 PM to 8:00 AM, three days a week. As a remote position, you will have the flexibility to work from anywhere, but you must be available to work the designated night shift hours.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or a health-related field is required.
  • Associate's degree with one to three years of related work experience may also be considered.
  • Excellent communication, computer, and organizational skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in organ donation and transplantation or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of OPTN policy and procedures is preferred.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and other software applications is a plus.

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with transplant centers, UNOS staff, and LiveOnNY Transplant Coordinators. You will also need to be highly organized, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
