Our Team's Focus
Our team centers around recognizing, measuring, and mitigating potential damages caused by generative AI systems, with a specific focus on estimating fairness-related harms (e.g., generalizing, disparaging, or eradicating groups) and other types of harmful content. We're working at the intersection of generative AI (e.g., large-scale language models like GPT-4 and multimodal models like DALL-E) and responsible AI, trust, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop central assets and tooling for identifying, measuring, or mitigating potential harms caused by generative AI systems.
- Collaborate with Microsoft product groups who wish to be proactive about responsible AI, and contribute to or potentially drive research projects aimed at advancing the state-of-the-art.
- Be a member of an interdisciplinary team of world specialists on the fairness of AI systems, working with partners from diverse backgrounds.
- Screen research advances and draw on them to shape your applied science work.
- Present your work to internal and external stakeholders, including Microsoft leadership.
Essential Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field AND 4+ years of related experience (e.g., statistical predictive analysis, research).
- OR: Master's degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field AND 3+ years of related experience.
- OR: Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field AND 1+ year of related experience.
Skills and Competencies
- Experience working with large-scale language models and/or multimodal models.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in a general-purpose coding language (e.g., Python, Java, Scala, C#, or C/C++).
